Digital remittance solution unveiled for Bangladeshi migrant workers in Singapore

A Bangladesh remittance mobile app’s integration of a regulated payment infrastructure now enables faster, transparent transfers for vulnerable workers.

In Singapore, Bangladeshi migrant workers regularly remit their earnings to support millions of households back home. However, they often use informal channels that expose them to scams and hidden fees of up to 20%, while also making it harder to track and protect these flows within the formal financial system.

Their main challenges have hitherto been a lack of trust in existing transfer channels; high and opaque costs; limited digital access; and weak protection against fraud in cross‑border transactions.

On 16 April, a faster, more transparent digital remittance solution was announced to help these migrant workers send money home after launching a digital remittance solution. The solution, a partnership between a dedicated remittance and travel app for Bangladesh migrant workers — Hometown — with a payments infrastructure platform, integrates the following benefits via an application programming interface:

  • A regulated payment infrastructure licensed by the Monetary Authority of Singapore to gate cross-border payouts
  • A mobile app tailored to migrant users, bundling remittance and travel services
  • A rules-based screening and monitoring layer to flag suspicious activity
  • Automated foreign-exchange and fee disclosure so users can see final upfront costs before confirming a transfer

According to Wafiul Haque, Chief Business Officer, GoZayaan, the firm that produces the Hometown mobile app for this workforce: “For migrant workers, sending money home is more than a transaction; it is a lifeline. By using (a regional) payout infrastructure, (our mobile app can) now ensure funds move from Singapore to Bangladesh faster and more affordably.”

Said Aditya Haripurkar, CEO and co‑founder, HitPay: “Bangladesh is one of the world’s most vital financial lifelines, underpinning the livelihoods of millions of households, adding that the collaboration can help migrant‑worker funds move with the transparency and speed that recipients deserve.

The partnership demonstrates how compliant payment infrastructure can be structured to serve vulnerable migrant‑worker populations across different destinations.ter, more transparent digital remittance solution was announced to help these migrant workers send money home after launching a digital remittance solution.
