Philippine SMEs can now tap a unified gateway for digital payment consolidation

After facingfragmented payment flows for years, local merchants now streamline online and in‑person transactions via a single digital payment gateway.

In the Philippines, thousands of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are accelerating their adoption of digital payments to simplify transactions and reduce operational friction.

Many of these businesses, ranging from local lifestyle retailers to wellness and hospitality firms, have relied on online platforms and mobile wallets to reach consumers nationwide. However, fragmented payment flows — involving multiple processors, inconsistent checkout interfaces, and mismatched reporting systems — have long created inefficiencies for merchants managing both online and physical stores.

To address this challenge, several Philippine merchants have begun using unified payment gateways that consolidate different digital wallets into one system. On 17 March 2026, SMEs gained expanded access to one such option when their payment systems were connected with a major regional e-wallet service.

The integration is designed to improve day-to-day operations in several ways:

  • A single transaction view across online and offline channels
  • Faster checkout using digital wallet balances
  • Optional use of linked digital banking accounts for additional payment flexibility
  • Streamlined reconciliation and reporting for subscription-based or multi-channel retailers
  • Enhanced security through standardized authentication and encryption protocols

Filipinos can now leverage this integration to pay at thousands of local merchants through a single digital channel that supports both online and in-person transactions. Through this upgrade, merchants can process consumer payments and recurring subscriptions on one consolidated interface.

According to Hazel Sumampong, Head, Product and Marketing, ShopeePay, the payment-method provider in the project, this initiative, is “… making digital payments more convenient for users and more empowering for businesses.” From the merchant platform’s perspective, the change targets the rapid shift in local consumer behavior. Aditya Haripurkar, Chief Executive Officer, HitPay, said mobile wallets now represent “more than half of retail e-commerce transaction value in the Philippines,” adding that embedding this
