Transforming Hong Kong’s event landscape with a seamless visitor experience

Kai Tak Sports Park offers state-of-the-art event and sports facilities accessible through a near-frictionless, technology-driven booking and payment amenities.

In the age of digital technology, a successful event experience begins long before the actual event. Starting from the ticket booking process, the on-site entry, to the venue facilities, to the payment methods for food, beverages, and merchandise… every customer touchpoint shapes the overall visitor experience.

At the recently opened Kai Tak Sports Park in Hong Kong, each step in the event experience is geared towards user friendliness, system flexibility and technological efficiency. Given Hong Kong’s slowing economy, the territory is relying on new amenities such as the sports park to lure back top concerts and sports events from its Asian neighbors — by addressing what they consider the biggest pain points of targeted consumers: ease of payment.

So, in terms of venue booking, both online and offline facilities are available. Each pathway offers secure payment options, self-service kiosks and countertop point-of-sale (POS) terminals. Also:

  • For the food and beverage amenities, the sports park contains more than 310 POS terminals that are equipped with intuitive interfaces to accept various payment options (such as app-to-app transfers, credit/debit cards/e-wallets and Faster Payment System real-time bank transfers) and reduce queue times.
  • For other amenities, the Kai Tak Experience Store accepts a diverse range of currencies and cross-border payment methods, encouraging spending due to the ease with which international visitors can plan their budgets.

Going forward, the firm supporting the payment platforms and services for Kai Tak Sports Park, Global Payments, are helping in the plan to install an additional 50 terminals by around the first half of this year. This is to help the country stay ahead of market trends, and to meet the diverse needs of both local residents and international visitors.

Additionally, for future proofing, the payment infrastructure provider is capable of supporting any new and emerging technologies for payment processing and related processes.
