Expanding interoperability and AI-driven transaction security will support SMEs, global connectivity, and responsive digital payment processing across the country.
On 27 January 2026, Indonesia-based payment system operator PT Artajasa Pembayaran Elektronis outlined a new step in its digital transformation journey through a collaboration with a digital payment platform.
The initiative focuses on strengthening cross-border transaction capabilities and enhancing digital payment efficiency for local consumers and businesses.
Artajasa manages Indonesia’s interconnected payment infrastructure, linking more than 80,000 ATMs and nearly 100 financial institutions through the ATM Bersama network. The firm has also expanded into digital payments, supporting QR-based transactions at over 41m merchant locations. Over the years, as its transaction volumes grew, the firm had faced increasing demands for interoperability, seamless settlement between payment platforms, and better support for mobile-first users.
To address these challenges, Artajasa began integrating technologies designed to improve cross-border payment processing and expand access for small- and medium- sized enterprises (SMEs). The approach combines:
- Interoperable payment gateway connectivity for domestic and international transactions
- AI-driven data models that strengthen fraud detection and payment authorization
- Platform interfaces that enable faster merchant onboarding and transaction transparency
- Digitalization tools supporting SME inclusion and broader access to electronic transactions
According to the firm’s President Director and Chief Executive Officer, Armand Hermawan, the collaboration marks a shift toward “…building trust-based, interconnected payment ecosystems shaped by continuous innovation.” He added that sharing technical expertise with international partners would allow Indonesian payment networks to evolve in line with global standards.
Going forward, the firm plans to extend the partnership’s initial phase by linking its local infrastructure with global networks to simplify payment experiences for Indonesian travelers and international visitors. The effort is expected to contribute to the resilience and competitiveness of Indonesia’s national payment system industry.
According to Edward Yue, General Manager (South-east Asia, ANZ and South Asia), Alipay+, the incumbent partner, the cooperation aligns with its goal of supporting local digital economies: “Indonesia is one of the most dynamic digital economies in the world, and we’re proud to collaborate with Artajasa to further Indonesia’s digital capabilities and learn from the local ecosystem.”
